VMware Unveils Private AI Offerings to Drive Enterprise Adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence

VMware, a leading provider of cloud infrastructure and digital workspace technology, has announced the introduction of new Private AI offerings aimed at facilitating the widespread adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in enterprises. These offerings are designed to leverage the power of trusted data while ensuring practical privacy and compliance measures.

Private AI is an architectural approach that enables businesses to harness the potential benefits of AI while addressing the specific privacy and regulatory requirements of their organizations. By bringing compute capacity and AI models to where enterprise data is generated, processed, and consumed, VMware is helping organizations take advantage of the flexibility and control needed to fuel the next wave of AI-enabled applications. The integration of AI into various business functions has the potential to significantly boost worker productivity and drive economic impact, with a McKinsey report estimating that generative AI could contribute up to $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy.

A key component of VMware’s strategy is a multi-cloud environment that serves as the foundation for the development of AI-powered applications. This approach enables enterprises to tap into highly distributed yet private data, providing greater choice and flexibility when building and customizing AI models. The multi-cloud environment also ensures the necessary security and resiliency across all deployment locations.

Raghu Raghuram, CEO of VMware, highlighted the importance of maintaining data privacy and minimizing intellectual property risks in unlocking the full potential of generative AI. He stated that VMware Private AI empowers customers to utilize their trusted data, allowing for the quick and secure building and deployment of AI models in a multi-cloud environment.

Enterprises currently face a challenging decision when it comes to generative AI. They can either utilize public AI models, which may expose their data to potential risks and unreliable training sources, or opt for a do-it-yourself approach that can be inefficient and time-consuming. Recognizing this problem, VMware AI Labs developed VMware Private AI as a solution.

Chris Wolf, Vice President of VMware AI Labs, pointed out that AI has traditionally been accessible primarily to data scientists. However, with the introduction of VMware Private AI offerings, the future of AI becomes more inclusive, benefiting all members of an enterprise. By bringing choice and flexibility in compute and AI models closer to the data, VMware enables a wide range of use cases, from software development to customer service tasks and legal document analysis.

To help enterprises become AI-ready, VMware has partnered with NVIDIA to create VMware Private AI Foundation. This integrated solution comprises a set of AI tools that allow enterprises to deploy proven models trained on their private data in a cost-efficient manner. Through the convergence of VMware’s Private AI architecture, NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, and accelerated computing, enterprises can customize models and run generative AI applications such as intelligent chatbots, assistants, and search algorithms. The offering is supported by industry leaders Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Lenovo.

Overall, VMware’s Private AI offerings represent a significant step forward in driving the adoption of generative AI in enterprises. By providing the infrastructure, tools, and security necessary for harnessing the potential of AI, VMware aims to revolutionize business processes and enhance productivity across a wide range of industries.
