Arrest Made in Fatal School Fight: 20-year-old Learner Charged with Murder in Limpopo, South Africa
A tragic incident has shocked the community of Sandsloot village in Mahwelereng, Limpopo, as a 20-year-old male learner has been arrested in connection with the murder of a fellow learner. The suspect, Wallen Tatesi Nthuse Ngoepe, 20, was involved in a fight with the victim, resulting in the victim sustaining injuries. Sadly, the victim, whose name has not been released, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, 20 August.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has conducted a thorough investigation into the untimely death of the 20-year-old learner. According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, spokesperson for the SAPS in Limpopo, the incident began unfolding on Friday, 18 August, at a local school. A fight broke out between the two learners, leading to one of them being injured.
The victim was initially hospitalized and later released, but upon returning home, he experienced complications and tragically passed away from his injuries, explained Ledwaba.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 23 August, to face a charge of murder. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated by the police.
In response to this tragic event, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Limpopo Police Commissioner, expressed her condemnation of violent behavior among learners, especially within school premises. She commended the investigation team for their diligent work in uncovering the truth and swiftly apprehending the perpetrator.
