The Western Railway has announced that around 95 trains running through, originating or terminating in Biparjoy-affected areas of Gujarat will remain cancelled or short-terminated till June 15, due to Cyclone Biparjoy. The India Meteorological Department has forecasted that the cyclone will hit Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch regions, and adjoining Pakistan coasts, on June 15. The Western Railway is closely monitoring the situation and revising train schedules to ensure safe travel. Sufficient manpower and machinery have been deployed by the Director of Information and Publication Railway Board with adequate preparation to deal with any emergency. Twelve NDRF teams have been deployed in Gujarat to prepare for the cyclone which has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm according to the IMD. The Health Minister of Gujarat, Rushikesh Ganeshbhai Patel, and the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya, also reviewed the preparedness measures being taken by Centre and Gujarat state on cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ at Bhuj, Gujarat on Tuesday. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is in continuous communication with its Regional Offices in all States of the Western Coast (including Gujarat) with instructions to provide requisite support to the States in their preparedness for the cyclone. The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) in all States has been tasked to conduct post-disaster disease surveillance through the State/district surveillance units for timely detection of any disease outbreak of any epidemic-prone diseases in the aftermath of the cyclone.
