9 years of administrative reforms for socio-economic transformation: Dr Jitendra

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for various ministries, recently stated that nine years of administrative reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance are aimed at socio-economic transformation. During a webinar on administrative reforms held in New Delhi, Dr. Singh said that the usage of technology and an integration approach were the twin pillars of the revolutionary governance reforms carried out in the last nine years. He also released booklets and flyers on nine years of administrative reforms. Ever since Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, his government’s motto has been ‘Minimum Government – Maximum Governance’, meaning a facilitator, not an intimidator, of citizens. Singh cited a robust grievance redressal mechanism as a benchmark for clean and effective government. The progress for April 2023 indicates 1,06,847 grievances have been redressed by Central Ministries/Departments. Dr. Singh listed several out-of-the-box ideas as part of administrative reforms, such as abolishing gazetted officer attestation of documents to replace it with self-attestation and abolishing interviews for Group-B and Group-C central government posts since 2016. He also mentioned the Good Governance Index Framework and the District Good Governance Index. In conclusion, Dr. Singh said that as India moves towards building a self-reliant India, it is imperative to empower citizens and reach the last person at the end of the line.
