In the city of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, 85 Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) will be upgraded into Saksham Anganwadi Centres (SACs) as part of the Indian government’s Saksham Anganwadi Programme. This will be carried out in the current financial year, with funding provided by the government to upgrade these centres for improved nutrition and early childhood care and education. Only selected centres will be given the funds for renovation, with the remaining centres selected for funding in the next financial year. The upgrade will include strengthening and upgrading the existing AWC buildings, developing a modern kitchen with cooking and serving utensils, providing clean storage for nutrition materials, and installing an electricity connection for LED screens. The government-funded programme also aims to develop child-friendly learning equipment and facilities, such as audio-visual aids and smart learning tools for stimulating the creative, social, emotional, cognitive, and intellectual development of children under six years of age.
