73-Year-Old Sets New World Record and Aims for Over 75s Football World Cup

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, a 73-year-old football enthusiast has broken the Guinness World Record and now has his sights set on the over 75s Football World Cup. Mr. Mudge, from Australia, played a full 90-minute game representing Kissing Point FC against North Turramurra, securing the prestigious title.

The road to victory was not easy for Mr. Mudge, as he had to meet several requirements set by Guinness World Record. He needed proof from the association, club, and referee to verify the game. Despite these challenges, his passion for the sport drove him forward. Many of his fellow players have chosen to retire, but Mr. Mudge continues to push his boundaries.

However, funding his trip to the over 75s Football World Cup in Thailand poses a challenge for the pensioner. In order to fulfill his dream, Mr. Mudge has started a GoFundMe page to seek support from the community. With a target of $6,500, every contribution counts. Currently, $1,330 has been raised, but there is still a way to go.

Mr. Mudge’s love for sports extends beyond football. He actively participates in cricket for Pennant Hills Pumas’ over 60s team and enjoys playing touch footy for the Linfield Lilywhites. Additionally, he is involved in veterans rugby with the Ku-ring-gai West Pymble team and embraces the fun of Zumba dancing to stay fit. His dedication and enthusiasm make him a living example that age truly is just a number.

The over 75s Football World Cup is scheduled to take place in Thailand in October, with participating nations including Australia, the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. Mr. Mudge has set his sights on this prestigious event, aiming to showcase his skills on an international stage. By overcoming financial obstacles, he hopes to secure his place in the Australian team and make his dream come true.

Mr. Mudge’s football journey began in 1958 with Beecroft FC in the U14 1/2 age group. Throughout the years, he has played for various clubs, including Kissing Point FC, West Pymble FC, and Turramurra United FC. His commitment to the sport extends beyond playing, as he has held important roles within Kissing Point FC, such as president, treasurer, life member, junior team coach, manager, and referee.

Beyond his sporting pursuits, Mr. Mudge also enjoys the simple pleasures of life. On Thursday night, he relaxed with a game of trivia and a glass of wine, showing that even record-breaking individuals appreciate downtime.

As the global football community applauds Mr. Mudge’s incredible achievements, many people are inspired by his dedication and zest for life. With the support of generous individuals who recognize the value of his dream, Mr. Mudge aims to overcome financial constraints and represent his country in the over 75s Football World Cup. Together, let’s help this remarkable athlete reach his goal and show the world that age truly does not limit one’s abilities.
