The Malaysian Health Ministry (MOH) has successfully upgraded 70 dilapidated clinics across the country as part of its Bitara Madani initiative. An additional 366 clinics are currently in the implementation phase, with the ministry aiming to complete the upgrading of all 436 clinics by the end of this year. The completion of these upgrades is crucial for MOH to obtain further funding for clinic improvements in the future.

According to Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni, each clinic’s upgrade cost varies between RM50,000 to RM800,000, depending on their specific requirements and location. The MOH aims to ensure that the quality of healthcare clinics throughout the country is maintained while rectifying issues such as damaged buildings, plumbing or wiring problems, as well as the safety and comfort of patients. Many of these issues have plagued clinics that have been operational for over 50 years.

The Bitara Madani initiative focuses on resolving problems faced by the public and enhancing the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of public services to ensure the welfare of the people. During a meeting of the Malaysia Madani Action Council on July 3, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government would prioritize two Bitara Madani projects: upgrading health facilities under the MOH and expanding the implementation of Gerai Madani.

In relation to the facility upgrading project, the government is taking immediate steps to upgrade 436 dilapidated clinics, with the aim of commencing implementation for each clinic by the end of this year. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to providing better healthcare services to the public, particularly in rural areas.

By addressing the issues faced by these clinics and upgrading their facilities, the MOH seeks to improve the overall quality and accessibility of healthcare services across Malaysia. This initiative not only ensures the well-being of patients but also aims to enhance the country’s healthcare infrastructure, ultimately benefiting the entire population.

The successful completion of the Bitara Madani initiative’s upgrading works on all 436 dilapidated clinics will significantly contribute to the improvement of public health services. It will also serve as a testament to the MOH’s dedication to delivering quality healthcare to all Malaysians. With ongoing efforts and government support, the future of healthcare in Malaysia looks promising, ensuring that the people can receive the care they deserve.
