According to the BMC Disaster Control, around 60 residents were rescued from the building, with one person sustaining minor injuries. As a precautionary measure, the fire brigade evacuated the residents using the staircase of an adjacent building, as the ceiling and stairway were collapsing due to the fire.
The blaze engulfed all the floors of the building, and it took nearly six hours for the firemen to finally extinguish it around 8 am on Friday. Cooling operations are still underway in the area.
The injured person was identified as Parag Chakankar, 40, who was treated for minor injuries and released. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are underway.
