Rocker Bassinets Recalled: Urgent Warning for Infant Safety

Federal consumer safety watchdog warns parents to stop using 5in1 brand rocker bassinets due to potential danger to infants. The recall comes as the products fail to meet federal infant sleep product regulations and lack critical consumer information such as labeling and instructions.

The warning, issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), urges customers to immediately discontinue the use of these bassinets, disassemble them, and dispose of them. The recall applies to rocker bassinets sold online, including Walmart’s website.

Affected bassinets were sold in green and gray color options and were marketed and labeled as 5in1 Rocker Bassinet. The packaging also includes markings such as Ya.Ya.Ya, 5IN1UPC Code 09331849600139, 01 Rock Sleeper, 02 Dream Centre, 03 Cozy Seat, 04 Travel Bassinet, 05 Rock & Play, Made in China, and Age 1-36 months.

However, the importer of these bassinets, Rev Grace Import Inc. from Pleasant Hill, Missouri, is not cooperating with the recall and has not provided any remedy for concerned parents. Missouri court documents reveal that the company was dissolved in October 2022 due to a failure to file a proper registration report.

Pamela Wardlow, a resident at the address where Rev Grace Import Inc. was once registered, stated that someone either mistakenly or fraudulently used her address to obtain a license. Wardlow expressed her frustration at being associated with a company she has no affiliation with and receiving mail addressed to the business.

The CPSC emphasizes the importance of safe sleep practices for infants. Infants should sleep on firm, flat surfaces without blankets, padded crib bumpers, or stuffed animals. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that parents avoid sharing a bed with infants.

This recall is not an isolated incident, as the CPSC has recently issued recalls for other products endangering infant safety. In January, Fisher-Price recalled about 4.7 million Rock ‘n Play sleepers following reports of infant deaths. Additionally, the Boppy Newborn Lounger pillow, which was recalled in 2021, and Fisher-Price’s Rock ‘n Play sleeper have been associated with multiple baby deaths.

Lawmakers have expressed concern over the availability of the Boppy Newborn Lounger on Facebook’s Marketplace despite repeated requests from the CPSC for the product’s removal. They warn that the company behind Facebook, Meta, is potentially compromising the safety of users and their children by allowing the sale of a product deemed hazardous by federal regulators.

In conclusion, parents should heed the warning and immediately cease using the 5in1 brand rocker bassinets. It is crucial to prioritize infant safety by following recommended sleep practices. The CPSC continues to monitor and take action against products that pose a risk to infants, and it is important for companies like Meta to promptly address safety concerns for the sake of their users.
