In celebration of International Yoga Day, which falls on the 21st of June every year, Healing Through Yoga on Audible offers yoga techniques that soothe and calm the mind, aiming to help all individuals cope with grief and emotional pain. Grief is not only a serious matter that affects our mental and emotional well-being, but our physical wellness as well. The five hand-picked practices that Healing Through Yoga included to deal with grief consist of Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Laughter Yoga, and Restorative Yoga.

Hatha Yoga originates from ancient yogic traditions and concentrates on attaining spiritual perfection by mastering the body. This type of yoga emphasizes physical postures called asanas, such as the Lotus Posture, and the Sun Salutation sequence consisting of 12 poses to relax, stretch, and balance the body. Vinyasa Yoga, also known as power yoga, includes various postures that are not repetitive to acquire a balanced body and avoid any injuries. The focus is on synchronizing breathing with movement in a meditative dance-like flow. Kundalini Yoga, on the other hand, is a blend of physical and spiritual yoga practices that aim to help with vitality, connection, and consciousness. It incorporates breathwork, meditations, chanting mantras, and kriyas to awaken the seven chakras in the body.

Laughter yoga, which does not focus on humor but relaxation, has a unique approach. It helps to strengthen the immune system, brings more oxygen into the body and brain, and helps one connect with a child-like playfulness. Restorative yoga, also known as Yin Yoga, is a nurturing sequence of postures that allows individuals to stretch and calm the body while also quieting the mind. This practice aids those dealing with trauma and provides them with recovery and a safe space to heal.

These different types of yoga help ease emotions and are beneficial for individuals who are processing grief and going through emotional pain. The importance of International Yoga Day and the healing power that yoga offers are why people around the world celebrate it.
