A 45-year-old woman was tragically found dead in her Bronx apartment, in a state of decomposition, with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the authorities. The grim discovery was made after police received a call from a concerned neighbor who had noticed a foul smell emanating from the apartment. When officers arrived at the Parkside Houses on Arnow Ave. near Barker Ave. in Allerton on Saturday afternoon, they discovered the lifeless body of Cindy Maxwell. She had been shot multiple times in the chest.
The neighbor who alerted the authorities described the putrid odor as comparable to hundreds of deceased rats. Eager to address the situation, he promptly reported it to the police for a wellness check. Sadly, no action had been taken since the initial shooting, despite the sound of gunshots being heard by other residents in the building a few days earlier. The noise, however, seemed to have originated from a different part of the housing complex, leading to a misdirected police response.
Cindy Maxwell, a longtime resident of the building, worked as a home attendant and was known as a kindhearted person to those who knew her. She leaves behind two daughters, one around the age of 11 and the other approximately six years old. The current custody arrangements for the children remain unclear, as does their whereabouts in the days leading up to their mother’s tragic discovery.
This shocking incident marks the fourth homicide in the Bronx’s 49th Precinct this year alone. In 2022, the precinct recorded a total of nine killings, as per NYPD statistics. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Cindy Maxwell’s murder, leaving the community and law enforcement grappling with an unsolved crime.
The investigation into this harrowing case continues, as authorities work tirelessly to bring closure to the victim’s family and hold those responsible accountable. The loss of Cindy Maxwell serves as a somber reminder of the importance of community vigilance and the significance of promptly reporting any concerns for the well-being of our neighbors.
