According to a recent opinion poll by ABP-CVoter, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Kamal Nath’s Hindutva is trusted by 44 per cent people in Madhya Pradesh. This is compared to incumbent Chief Minister and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan, whose Hindutva is trusted by 41.6 per cent of respondents. The opinion poll was conducted with a sample size of 17,113 between May 26 and June 26, covering all 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh.
The survey found that among BJP supporters, 63.7 per cent trust the Hindutva of Chouhan, while 22.1 per cent back Kamal Nath’s Hindutva. Meanwhile, among Congress supporters, 67.8 per cent of people said they do not trust Kamal Nath’s Hindutva, while 19.4 per cent said they trust Chouhan’s Hindutva. Among others, 40.9 per cent said they believe in Kamal Nath’s Hindutva, while 39.8 per cent said they believe in Chouhan’s Hindutva.
The poll results suggest that there is a relatively even split between the two parties in terms of trust in their respective leaders’ Hindutva. However, it is important to note that the poll was conducted before the recent controversy surrounding Nath’s alleged item remark, which has caused a significant backlash against the Congress leader.
The term Hindutva refers to a political ideology that emphasizes Hindu nationalism and seeks to promote the cultural and social values of Hinduism. It has become an increasingly important issue in Indian politics, particularly with the rise of right-wing nationalist parties such as the BJP.
This opinion poll provides valuable insights into the attitudes of voters in Madhya Pradesh towards Hindutva and the leaders who espouse it. It remains to be seen how these attitudes will translate into votes in the upcoming state elections, and whether any further developments will impact public opinion on the issue.
