After the successful rescue operation to evacuate all 41 workers trapped inside Uttarakhand’s Silkyari tunnel for 17 days, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar commended their grit and determination. The Silkyari tunnel workers had been trapped since November 12, when a section of the tunnel collapsed between 205 and 260 meters from the Silkyara side, blocking their exit. However, on Tuesday evening, all the workers were safely evacuated.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister VK Singh welcomed the rescued workers, who were draped in orange marigold flower garlands. CM Dhami announced that each worker trapped in the Silkyara tunnel would receive financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh from the Uttarakhand government. He also assured that complete arrangements would be made for their hospital treatment until they return home.
