A 40-foot-long wall collapsed in Thane West, Maharashtra, due to heavy rainfall. The incident happened behind Viviana Mall in the Varthak Nagar area. Luckily, no injuries were reported in the incident, according to a Thane Municipal Corporation official. However, a portion of a three-storey building in Mumbai’s Rajawadi Colony, Ghatkopar (East), collapsed on Sunday due to heavy rainfall. The rescue teams immediately started evacuating people trapped under the debris of the building. The search operation continued for two people who were still trapped. Unfortunately, the recovery team found both individuals dead on Monday. The Mumbai Fire Brigade, NDRF, Police, Ward Staff, 108 Ambulance, and Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) all assisted in the rescue operation.
As Mumbai and its surrounding areas experience heavy rainfall, the risk of such incidents increases. The local government should take preventive measures to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall. The authorities should also conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of such incidents. Furthermore, the safety standards for construction work must be strictly implemented.
In conclusion, the recent incidents of building collapses in Mumbai and Thane West are a wakeup call for the local authorities to take stringent precautions. The primary focus should be on the safety of citizens to avoid any fatal accidents or injuries. Officials and rescue teams also deserve applause for their swift action in responding to these emergencies. We must continue to prioritize the safety of our citizens and take meaningful steps towards securing our infrastructure.
