The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) cell has released the results of the MHT-CET 2023, the state’s entrance examination for undergraduate engineering, pharmacy, and agriculture courses. This year, 28 students from all over Maharashtra scored 100 percentile – 14 from Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics (PCM) and 14 from Physics-Chemistry-Biology (PCB). Of the 28, 24 were from the General category, two from the Other Backward Castes (OBC) and one from Nomadic Tribe (NT) – 1.

The exam was held in multiple sessions from May 9 to 20 at 197 exam centers, 16 of which were located outside the state. A total of 3,29,809 male and 2,62041 female candidates appeared for the examination while 1 transgender registered but ultimately did not appear.

Last year, when the entire admission process was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, 27 candidates belonging to the General category had scored 100 percentile. This year’s results came three months earlier compared to last year.

The admission process for BE/BTech, BPharm, and Agriculture courses will begin from June 15, and students have until June 30 to apply. The Centralised Admission Process (CAP) will be used for admission to these courses.

During the previous admission cycle, only 77.13% of registered candidates appeared for the examination, with 4.67 lakh candidates out of 6.06 lakh appearing. This year, 6.36 lakh students registered for CET, of whom 5.91 lakh (92.93%) appeared for the test. These included 3.14 lakh candidates who had opted for the Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics (PCM) group and 2.77 lakh who chose Physics-Chemistry-Biology (PCB).

Many of the 100 percentile-scorers have expressed their aspirations. Seshadhari Ramakrishnan Iyer, a student of Nirmala Memorial College in Kandivalli, wants to pursue medicine for higher education. Anushka Doshi from Kandivali, who scored 90.5% in her SSC class 12, wants to get into one of the country’s NITs or BITS for engineering. Animesh Nageshkumar Shinde, a student of Shubham Raje Junior College in Thane, advised other students not to be deterred by low scores, while Viraj Mankani, a PCM student in a family of PCBs, wants to pursue Btech from one of the IITs. Shaivi Balwatkar from Goregaon finds Biology interesting, while Maths is more practical, and is counting on her parents’ help to make her choice.

In conclusion, even though 28 candidates scored a perfect 100, the competition for admission to these coveted programs is bound to be stiff. Candidates are advised to apply to the admission process immediately and prepare for the tests with steadfastness and diligence.
