At least 27 people have been feared dead as Cyclone Michaung wreaked havoc in South India. The cyclone made landfall at Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday afternoon, bringing intense rainfall and gale-force winds of nearly 100 kmph. The death toll includes five in Andhra Pradesh, two in Telangana, and 20 in Chennai and its adjoining areas. Four bodies were recently discovered in submerged homes, increasing the toll in the region. The cyclone also caused significant damage to crops and orchards in Andhra Pradesh. Tragically, a police constable engaged in relief and rescue efforts was killed when a falling tree crushed him in Kadapa district. Chennai continues to grapple with waterlogging and power cuts, although the rainfall has temporarily ceased. As a result of the flooding, many residents have been forced to evacuate from flooded areas with the assistance of rescue workers. The city is now facing flood-related challenges as authorities work to mitigate the impact of the cyclone’s aftermath.
