New Delhi, Jan 13 – Delhi Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly attempting to kill his pregnant 19-year-old partner. The accused, Yogesh Dheda, attacked the woman with a screwdriver, blade, and stones in an attempt to abort her pregnancy, according to the police. The woman, who works in an Ayurveda clinic, was found severely injured in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar and is currently battling for her life at Lok Nayak Hospital. Dheda, who resides in the same locality as the victim, was arrested on Saturday. Investigations revealed that he had been pressuring the woman to have an abortion and had even given her pills that could cause a miscarriage. Frustrated with her refusal, Dheda allegedly attacked her while she was returning home from work. He stabbed her multiple times, slashed her neck, and stoned her face with bricks in an attempt to conceal her identity. Dheda destroyed the woman’s phone and sim card before leaving her at the scene, thinking she was dead. The police located and arrested him based on technical evidence, chat history, and CCTV footage. An FIR has been filed under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The woman remains in critical condition on ventilator support.
