A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, on charges of allegedly luring a teenage woman from a village and raping her, according to police. Neeraj Kumar was apprehended on June 25 after being booked on June 6 under sections 363 and 366 of the Indian Penal Code for kidnapping and abducting the 19-year-old woman, respectively. The woman’s father lodged a complaint with police alleging that Kumar abducted his daughter on June 4 and raped her. When police arrested Kumar, he was with the woman. Subsequently, the case was amended to include section 376, which pertains to rape, based on a statement from the victim. Police have initiated legal proceedings against Kumar based on the charges and are investigating the matter.
