At least 21 people have lost their lives in Karnataka due to heavy rainfall, with several others facing severe damages caused by floods. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda visited the rain-affected areas of Kumta to assess the situation on the ground and offer condolences to the families of the victims. He consoled the relatives of two men, Satish Pandurang Naik and Ullas Gavadi, who tragically lost their lives after being swept away by a stream during the heavy rains.

Understanding the plight of the villagers during the monsoons, Kumta MLA Dinakar Shetty expressed his concerns and highlighted the recurring difficulties faced by the community. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda toured waterlogged areas and personally witnessed the impact of the torrential rains. He extended a helping hand to the grieving families by providing them with a compensation amount of Rs 5 lakh each through a cheque.

The minister emphasized the urgency of supporting those affected by the heavy rainfall and instructed officials to take all necessary measures to assist them. Speaking to reporters, he shared the distressing news that 21 people had already lost their lives in Karnataka due to the rain-induced havoc. Among the affected districts, Mangaluru alone witnessed the loss of six lives, while four deaths were reported in Udupi and three in Uttara Kannada.

The consequences of the relentless downpour have also led to the death of more than 40 cattle, along with significant damage to numerous houses. In response, the government has decided to provide a compensation amount of Rs 1.25 lakh for each damaged house. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda assured the public that the government is fully committed to supporting those affected by the rainfall. He acknowledged the visits of the district in-charge ministers of Mangaluru and Udupi to the affected areas, recognizing the importance of assessing the situation firsthand.

While the focus remains on providing immediate relief to affected families, it is crucial to consider the long-term impact of such disasters and implement measures to mitigate potential damage in the future. The government should explore ways to enhance drainage systems, strengthen river embankments, and improve infrastructure resilience to safeguard citizens from the devastating effects of natural calamities. It is equally important for residents to stay vigilant and follow any safety guidelines provided by the authorities during periods of heavy rainfall.

As the rain-related fatalities continue to rise, it is imperative to prioritize the needs of the affected communities and work collectively to alleviate their suffering. The government must ensure that necessary resources, including financial aid and humanitarian support, are efficiently allocated to expedite the recovery process. Furthermore, it is essential to foster community resilience through comprehensive disaster management plans, emphasizing both preparedness and response strategies.

While the situation remains challenging, the spirit of resilience and solidarity among the people of Karnataka will undoubtedly help them overcome this crisis. The authorities, along with the cooperation of citizens, can navigate through these difficult times and gradually rebuild the affected areas. As the recovery efforts continue, it is crucial to reflect on ways to minimize the impact of future rainfall and strengthen the state’s resilience to natural disasters. Only through collective action and proactive measures can Karnataka prepare itself better for the challenges that lie ahead.
