Ghanaian Muslim faithfuls have begun their journey to Saudi Arabia for the 2023 annual Hajj pilgrimage, with the first and second batches of 860 pilgrims landing in the city of Madina over the weekend. Following completion of their check-in formalities, the pilgrims were directed to the waiting aircraft for their flights. Supportive officials from the Ghana Hajj Board Secretariat, Hajj Agents Association representatives, prospective pilgrims, and family members arrived in Madina to welcome the pilgrims. The Ghanaian envoy to Saudi Arabia, Mohammad Habib Tijani, and members of the advance team of Ghana Hajj Board officials have also arrived to welcome the pilgrims. The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Hajj Board, Alhaji Farouk Hamza, expressed satisfaction about the performance of the stakeholders and demanded total cooperation from prospective pilgrims during the pre-departure formalities. The Southern sector of the airlift, from the Kotoka International Airport, covering Kumasi, Accra and surrounding areas is expected to commence in the coming days with expected numbers totaling approximately 1,287 pilgrims. Ghanaian pilgrims are assured of two meals daily throughout their month-long stay in Saudi Arabia.
