At least 19 people were injured in a steam leak that took place at Tata Steel’s Meramandali plant located in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district in India on June 13th. The incident occurred while workers and engineers were inspecting the blast furnace, resulting in burns for those affected. The injured were rapidly transported to a private hospital in Cuttack for treatment. According to Dhenkanal SP Gyanaranjan Mohapatra, the accident occurred during the inspection work, and Tata Steel confirmed that it had affected a few of the staff on the site. Following the accident, all emergency protocols were applied, and the steel company cordoned off the area. The injured were moved to the Occupational Health Centre located on the plant premises before being taken to Cuttack in the company’s ambulance. Tata Steel emphasized that it was cooperating with authorities on the case as it initiated an internal investigation into the cause of the accident, with the corporation’s number one priority being safety.
