Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the efforts of the Narcotics Control Bureau and other organizations in their fight against drugs on International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Shah stated that during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, the registration of cases against drug peddlers in the country increased by 181%. He also applauded the Whole of Government Approach policy of the Modi government, which coordinated different departments to make the policy more effective.
Shah further emphasized that the Ministry of Home Affairs established NCORD in 2019 and that the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) was formed in the police departments of every state. The first national conference of ANTF was held in April 2023 in Delhi. India has seized drugs worth Rs 768 crore in 2014-22, which is nearly 30 times greater than the drugs worth Rs 256 crore only seized in 2006-13.
The Union Home Minister urged people to take an active part in the war against drug misuse and to inform security agencies about the drug trade.
