The 17th Lok Sabha concluded its monsoon session with productive outcomes, as it passed a total of 22 bills during its 44-hour and 15-minute sitting. Speaker Om Birla adjourned the Lok Sabha sine die on Friday, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party leaders, and MPs for their cooperation.
During the session, which began on July 20, the Lok Sabha held 17 sittings and introduced 20 bills. All 20 Starred Questions were answered orally on August 9, 2023. The session also witnessed a no-confidence motion against the PM Modi government, with 60 members participating in the discussion, ultimately resulting in the motion being defeated by a voice vote.
The Monsoon Session was marked by intense debates and discussions on various pressing issues, such as the Manipur violence. This session was the 12th session of the 17th Lok Sabha, and it proved to be eventful with significant legislative achievements.
It is noteworthy that this was the second time Prime Minister Modi faced a no-confidence motion during his tenure. The first motion, which was introduced in 2018, focused on granting a special category status to Andhra Pradesh and was subsequently defeated.
