Bhubaneswar (Odisha, India: On the 15th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attack, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his belief that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been in office instead of Manmohan Singh, the outcome would have been different. Sarma’s remarks came as the nation remembered the tragic day when heavily armed terrorists from the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba unleashed terror on Mumbai’s streets, resulting in the loss of over 166 lives and leaving more than 300 injured.
It is a very sad day. I think if Narendra Modi had been the PM instead of Manmohan Singh at that time, the things which Congress did would not have been done. And we feel sad that we are not able to do what should have been done, Sarma shared with ANI in Bhubaneshwar on Sunday.
The coordinated attacks on November 26, 2008, targeted various crucial public installations in Mumbai and involved indiscriminate firing on unarmed civilians. While Ajmal Amir Qasab, one of the terrorists, was captured alive, the remaining attackers were eliminated during the four-day-long operation to retake the city from the grips of terrorism.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the victims of the horrendous 26/11 attack in his monthly radio broadcast, ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ He commended the country’s indomitable resilience and capability to bounce back from the deep scars left by the terrorists. He also emphasized the relentless efforts to crack down on terrorism with full force and courage.
The 26/11 Mumbai Terror attack remains etched in India’s collective memory as a tragic chapter of its history. The assault, which shocked the nation and the world, prompted a significant shift in India’s security apparatus, leading to increased efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen intelligence and counter-terrorism operations.
As the anniversary serves as a reminder of the immense loss suffered, it also reaffirms the nation’s determination to combat terrorism and preserve its national security.
