12th Homicide of the Year: Calgary Police Seek Public’s Help in Fatal Mall Shooting
Calgary police are appealing to the public for assistance in their investigation into a fatal shooting outside Market Mall over the weekend. The victim has been identified as the 12th homicide in the city this year, highlighting the concern surrounding the increasing acts of violence in public spaces.
Acting Staff Sgt. Lee Treit expressed deep concern over the brazen and unnecessary act of violence that occurred in broad daylight, endangering innocent citizens going about their daily activities. We believe this is a targeted incident, he stated, reassuring the public that there is no outstanding risk. However, it is crucial for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and help the police with their investigation.
In their efforts to uncover more details about the shooting, the Calgary police are actively searching for a 2015 white Volvo XC60 that was observed in the mall parking lot at the time of the incident. The car, which was reported stolen on Thursday, is missing its gas cap on the passenger side. Shortly after the shooting, it was spotted traveling on Shaganappi Trail N.W., approaching Crowchild Trail.
The registered owner of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators, but police are urging anyone who was near Market Mall around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday and may have dashcam footage to contact them. Additionally, they are requesting dashcam video from the vicinity of the Side Street Pub and Grill on Kensington Cres. N.W. between Wednesday at 2 a.m. and Thursday at 12 p.m.
For those with information, the police can be reached at 403-266-1234, and anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or calgarycrimestoppers.org.
It is important to note that the shooting at Market Mall is unrelated to another incident that took place at Deerfoot City over the weekend, providing a balanced perspective on the recent acts of violence in Calgary.
The Calgary police are working diligently to solve this case and bring justice to the victim and their family. By involving the public and utilizing all available resources, they hope to make significant progress in their investigation.
