All 11 nominations for 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh found valid
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh – The nominations of all 11 candidates vying for 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh have been deemed valid, according to a press release from the Vidhan Sabha’s Joint Secretary and Assistant Returning Officer. The scrutiny of the nomination papers, held on February 16, confirmed the eligibility of the nominees.
The candidates in the race for the Rajya Sabha seats include Jaya Amitabh Bachchan, Ramji Lal Suman, Alok Ranjan, RPN Singh, Sundhanshu Trivedi, Tejveer Singh, Sadhna Singh, Amarpal Maurya, Sangeeta, Naveen Jain and Sanjay Seth. Brij Bhushan Dubey, the Returning Officer and Special Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, oversaw the scrutiny process, with Navdeep Rinwa, the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, present as an observer.
The Rajya Sabha is composed of members who serve a six-year term, with elections held every two years to fill one-third of the seats. Currently, the Rajya Sabha has 245 members. The upcoming Rajya Sabha elections for 15 states, including Uttar Pradesh, are slated for February 27. Voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the results to be announced on the same day.
The Election Commission has scheduled the biennial Rajya Sabha polls for a total of 56 seats, as the term of the current incumbents ends in April. Out of the 245 members, 233 represent the states and union territories, while the remaining 12 are nominated by the President.
The announcement of all 11 nominations being deemed valid has set the stage for a competitive and closely-watched election process. It remains to be seen who will secure the coveted seats in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
