Over the last 15 days, specific intelligence provided by agencies aided in the killing of 11 foreign terrorists, and the recovery of huge quantities of narcotics, weapons, and ammunition in the Kupwara sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces’ officials told ANI that heightened surveillance and security had helped the Indian Army to foil three major infiltration bids in the Kupwara sector of J-K. These efforts led to the elimination of 11 foreign terrorists and the recovery of narcotics, weapons, and ammunition. Intelligence agencies began heightened surveillance in Kupwara after new faces were observed getting active in areas opposite Indian positions on the Line of Control. When they attempted to infiltrate into their territory, they were eliminated by the alert troops present to tackle such enemy action.

The Indian Army and intelligence agencies have deployed additional surveillance equipment in suspected areas to counter potential terrorist attacks during the Amarnath Yatra. Recoveries from the latest infiltration bid indicate that Pakistan Army and ISI might be attempting to spread terrorism through narcotics smuggling. Recoveries include 12 weapons found with four foreign terrorists killed after the encounter and 55 kg of A1 grade narcotics, which could have sold in metros for at least INR five crores per kg.

Security agencies are continuing to investigate the recovered items and documents from the terrorists to determine the linkages between terrorists and their India-based contacts and uncover the destination of the drugs they attempted to bring inside India. Recovered surveillance equipment such as night vision goggles and night-enabled binoculars could have otherwise helped terrorists to move through the area with ease.

Sources noted that the recovery of 12 weapons also pointed to additional weaponry intended for other terrorists who may consider infiltrating the Kashmir Valley in the near future. The Army and security forces have heightened their vigilance along the LoC using new high-tech surveillance equipment that can aid in quickly analyzing any unusual movements or activities on the other side.
