Thousands of subreddits prepare to go dark as Reddit makes changes to its API.

Reddit's latest API changes have resulted in over 100 subreddits going dark, with thousands more planning to do so. CEO Steve Huffman hosted an AMA on the issue. Third-party app developers, including Selig of Apollo, have raised concerns that the changes will render their apps unusable. In response, some subreddits have escalated their protests. The upheaval coincides with Reddit announcing the layoff of 90 employees, constituting 5% of its workforce.
