Verizon Report: Social Engineering Attacks on the Rise, Leading to Increased Frequency and Higher Costs of Data Breaches in 2023
Verizon Business' 16th annual Data Breach Investigations Report reveals that ransomware costs have doubled in the past two years. Human-related breaches account for 74% of total attacks, highlighting the need to enhance protection for senior leaders. Businesses with distributed workforces should create and enforce human-centric security best practices to prevent Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks. The report found that only 3% of threat actors were motivated by espionage, while the rest were financially driven.
