The Indian government isn't the ultimate decider for false or misleading online content, says the country's Centre. A new guideline for its Fact Check Unit (FCU) has been issued, where the court of law will be the final arbiter for untrue content. The intermediary will now be responsible for exercising due diligence to remove false content. The FCU will verify the authenticity of any apparently fake content and make it possible for the intermediary to take necessary actions. The Centre claims this approach will balance the stake of content creators and recipients and safeguard the recipients' fundamental rights.
