Band Director from Wichita to March in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Wichita is buzzing with excitement as one of their very own band directors, Jim Mareda, prepares to march in the prestigious Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Mareda, who has been teaching music to children and teenagers in Wichita USD 259 for over 20 years, will be joining the Band Director’s Marching Band to showcase his talent on the trombone.
The news of Mareda’s selection to march in the parade has brought great pride and honor to the city. A fellow band director nominated him for the opportunity, and after a rigorous selection process, he was chosen among only a few individuals from Kansas. Mareda will be joining 400 band directors from across the country in this musical extravaganza.
Excitement and anticipation fill the air as Mareda prepares for his journey to the Big Apple. Leaving on Saturday, he looks forward to sharing this incredible experience with fellow musicians and forming new friendships with his band director counterparts. With his band positioned towards the front of the parade, they will follow the beloved Snoopy float, adding their own musical touch to the festivities.
However, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade isn’t the only event on Mareda’s itinerary. The band will also participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial, where their soulful music is sure to create a memorable atmosphere. Mareda firmly believes that music is more than just a subject to be taught; it is an essential part of life that can touch everyone’s heart and soul.
As he eagerly awaits Thanksgiving morning, Mareda expresses his pride in representing both the state of Kansas and the Wichita school system. With a packed schedule and a heart full of excitement, he is ready to make his mark on the grandest stage of all.
Jim Mareda’s participation in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade serves as a testament to the talent and dedication of Wichita’s educators. As the city gears up to watch their beloved band director march through the streets of New York City, the spirit of music and unity will resonate not only within Wichita but across the nation.
