Buffalo Bills defensive end Von Miller is set to make his long-awaited return to the field after a 10-month injury hiatus. Miller, who tore a ligament in his right knee nearly a year ago, has been activated from the reserve-physically unable to perform list just in time for the Bills’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The 34-year-old veteran has been patiently recovering from his injury since November 2020 when he suffered the setback during a win against the Detroit Lions. Although he was cleared for practice in late August, the Bills opted to provide him with additional recovery time by placing him on the PUP list for the first four weeks of the regular season.
Miller’s return will undoubtedly provide a boost to Buffalo’s defensive unit. As the NFL’s all-time active sacks leader, his pass-rushing skills and experience will be vital for the team. However, the Bills are expected to ease Miller back into gameplay and limit his appearances to obvious passing situations. This cautious approach is understandable given he has been out of action for an extended period.
The decision to activate Miller comes at a convenient time for the Bills as they have already ruled out starting defensive end Greg Rousseau due to a foot injury. Additionally, backup defensive end Shaq Lawson has been added to the injury report with a toe injury. With these absences in mind, Miller’s role becomes even more crucial for the Bills’ defense.
In order to make room on the roster for Miller’s return, the Bills have placed starting cornerback Tre’Davious White on injured reserve. White suffered a season-ending right Achilles tendon tear in the previous game against the Miami Dolphins. Alongside Miller’s activation, the Bills have also elevated cornerback Ja’Marcus Ingram and defensive tackle Kendal Vickers from their practice squad, making both eligible for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars.
As Miller prepares to step back onto the field, the Buffalo Bills and their fans eagerly anticipate his impact on the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It remains to be seen how much playing time Miller will receive, but his return is undoubtedly a significant milestone in his recovery journey. With his exceptional skills and the support of his teammates, Miller aims to make a triumphant comeback and contribute to the Bills’ continued success throughout the season.
