US Supports India’s Key Strategic Partnership Amid Israel Crisis
In a significant show of support, the White House has declared India a key strategic partner and affirmed that the United States will defer to the Indian government to determine its stance on global crises and contingencies. This statement comes as National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby discussed India’s position on the ongoing Israel crisis. Meanwhile, Israeli Ambassador to India Naor Gilon has praised India as a crucial moral voice in the world and appealed for the designation of Hamas as a terrorist organization in India. Gilon emphasized the joint battle against terrorism, noting the alignment between India and Israel in this regard. He commended Prime Minister Modi for his early condemnation of terrorism and highlighted the importance of India as a close ally in the fight against terror.
In response to these remarks, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi reiterated India’s commitment to the resumption of direct negotiations for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel. Bagchi characterized the attack by Hamas on Israel as a terrorist act and emphasized the universal obligation to uphold international humanitarian law and combat terrorism.
Regarding the designation of Hamas as a terrorist organization in India, Bagchi stated that it falls under the jurisdiction of legal authorities. He affirmed India’s clear stance against terrorism but deferred to the relevant authorities to respond to the issue.
