Nashville Teen Fatally Shot: Suspect Arrested as Family Seeks Justice
In a tragic incident that shook the city of Nashville, a teenager was shot dead while driving in South Nashville in January 2023. The victim, 16-year-old Alex Delgado, was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that crashed into a local IHOP. Now, nearly a year later, the suspect has been apprehended, giving hope to Delgado’s grieving family.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Henry Fletcher, was tracked down by Metro police through a clever use of technology. Using Delgado’s phone, law enforcement accessed the last video in his library, which turned out to be a recording of another vehicle’s license plate. This breakthrough led them to Fletcher, who allegedly had an encounter with Delgado prior to the shooting.
According to court documents, Fletcher’s vehicle accidentally bumped into Delgado’s while leaving a gas station. What followed was a series of events that escalated the situation. Delgado, instead of letting the matter go, decided to pursue Fletcher. A passenger inside Fletcher’s vehicle claimed that Delgado opened fire on them. In response, Fletcher allegedly fired two to three shots at Delgado’s vehicle before heading home, leaving the young teenager fatally wounded.
Fletcher was taken into custody on Tuesday and has been charged with criminal homicide. His bond has been set at $150,000. However, Delgado’s family, heartbroken by the loss of their loved one, continues to seek justice. They have spent the past year tirelessly advocating for their son’s case, desperate for answers and closure.
Six months after the devastating loss, Delgado’s mother and father organized a rally to generate information about their son’s untimely death. The grief-stricken parents expressed their anguish, saying that they have not seen any progress in the case. We go through different stages of emotions every day, and the hardest part of all of this is we have no progress on the case. It hasn’t moved one single bit, said Alex’s father, Aniceto Lara. Alex’s aunt, Claudia Lara, spoke about her nephew’s kind-hearted nature and emphasized the family’s need for justice. He loved life, he was young, he was handsome and, like, caring, loving towards his family, and now we’re not going to have him anymore, and it’s not fair and we need to get justice for him, said Claudia.
Despite their pain, the grieving family takes solace in knowing that Alex’s legacy lives on. Alex was an organ donor, and his generous act was able to save the lives of three children and an adult, providing a silver lining in the midst of their grief.
While the arrest of the suspect brings some hope to the family, their quest for justice and closure continues. As the trial unfolds, the Nashville community stands in solidarity with the Delgado family, supporting their call for justice. The loss of a young life is a tragedy that reverberates through the hearts of all who hear this somber tale.
