Taiwanese Actor Summonsed Again in Sexual Assault Investigation
TAIPEI — Taiwanese actor Nono Chen is facing a second round of questioning by the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office in relation to allegations of sexual assault and other sex-related offenses. This comes after Chen was initially questioned in August and subsequently released on bail.
The accusations against Chen were made by internet celebrity Anisa in June. Anisa claimed that Chen had committed multiple illegal acts, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, forced indecency, and sexual assault of an underage girl. Following these allegations, Chen announced his retirement from the entertainment industry via a Facebook post, where he expressed the need for deep self-reflection.
During the first interrogation, prosecutors probed Chen regarding the allegations, and he was then released on bail. However, as the seriousness of the accusations remains, prosecutors have summoned Chen for further questioning. During the most recent interrogation, which lasted two hours, investigators took Chen to a private room to verify if certain features of his intimate parts matched the descriptions provided by the victims, according to reports.
Anisa revealed that numerous other women have claimed to have had similar experiences with Chen after she disclosed her personal encounter. Allegedly, Chen targeted women from different professions and ages, using various platforms such as Facebook, WeChat, Instagram, and television work to allegedly commit acts of sexual assault against them without their consent.
Initially, Anisa and the other victims hoped for an apology from Chen, but his failure to admit any wrongdoing led Anisa to file charges against him. As part of the ongoing investigation, prosecutors have searched Chen’s residence and intend to question the victims to gather further information and evidence before conducting another round of questioning with Chen.
Throughout the process, Chen has remained silent. Reports suggest that he downplayed the seriousness of the allegations during the interrogation and refused to admit guilt. Therefore, prosecutors have felt the need to summon the victims to clarify the details of the case, enabling them to question Chen further based on the testimonies and evidence that has been gathered.
The case continues to attract public attention, with many expressing disdain for Chen’s behavior. This investigation highlights the importance of addressing and thoroughly investigating allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, regardless of the accused individual’s social status. The outcome of this case will be closely watched, as it could have far-reaching implications for similar cases in the future.
