Two Men Arrested in Speeding Traffic Stop Frenzy
In a startling turn of events, a routine speeding traffic stop led to a frenzy as two individuals attempted to flee from authorities. The incident took place on Thursday, November 16 in Westbury, as reported by Nassau County Police.
At approximately 10 p.m., law enforcement officers noticed a 2008 Nissan traveling at high speed along Old Country Road towards the east. Promptly, they pulled over the vehicle at the intersection of Old Country Road and Kinkel Street. However, as the cops approached, the front seat passenger, identified as 30-year-old Farid Acosta from New Cassel, attempted to escape on foot.
Despite his efforts, Acosta was apprehended by the officers, but not without putting up a fight. The authorities discovered a loaded Kel-Tec handgun on his person, leading to additional charges of criminal possession of a weapon against Acosta.
Meanwhile, chaos ensued as the back seat passenger, 43-year-old Carlos Alvarez from East Meadow, also tried to evade capture. However, law enforcement swiftly located and arrested him shortly after his escape attempt. Upon investigation, officers allegedly found a white, powdery substance believed to be cocaine on Alvarez.
Both Acosta and Alvarez now face charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and obstructing administration. Additionally, Alvarez had an active warrant for criminal possession of a forged instrument, resulting in an added charge of escape against him.
The driver of the Nissan, who has not been named, received two traffic tickets for the speeding violation.
Both suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them and await their court appearance in First District Court on Tuesday, November 21.
