South Korea’s Foreign Minister, Park Jin, is set to embark on a trip to Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this month in a bid to secure support for the country’s hosting of the 2030 World Expo. The South Korean foreign ministry announced on Thursday that Park will visit Ethiopia, Zambia, and Rwanda in Africa, before making a stop in Dubai, UAE, from August 8 to 14.
During his tour of Africa, Park plans to hold meetings with his counterparts to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties and explore opportunities for collaboration. Additionally, he will address the participation of African dignitaries in the South Korea-Africa summit scheduled for next year.
In Dubai, Minister Park will meet with representatives of South Korean companies operating in the UAE to discuss their activities and potential support measures from Seoul. He will also hold a meeting with the heads of South Korean missions in the Middle East to bolster ties with the region.
The efforts to secure the bid to host the 2030 World Expo are part of South Korea’s diplomatic strategy to showcase the country’s capabilities and foster international cooperation. The World Expo, a global event that takes place every five years, provides a platform for countries to exhibit technological advancements, cultural heritage, and economic potential. South Korea aims to host the expo in the city of Busan, located in the southeastern part of the country.
As Minister Park engages in diplomatic initiatives during his visit to Africa and the UAE, South Korea hopes to garner support from these regions to bolster its bid. The World Expo offers opportunities for nations to strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties, making it a significant event on the global stage.
South Korea’s focus on Africa reflects the country’s efforts to further enhance cooperation with the continent. By engaging with African nations, South Korea aims to deepen its relationships, identify areas of synergy, and promote mutually beneficial partnerships.
The visit to the UAE holds equal importance as it allows South Korea to strengthen ties with a key partner in the Middle East. UAE has been a strategic hub for South Korean businesses and investments, and Minister Park’s meetings with South Korean companies operating in the UAE will further solidify these connections.
South Korea’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo presents an exciting opportunity for the nation to showcase its progress, innovation, and potential to the world. By seeking support from African countries and the UAE, South Korea aims to turn this bid into a successful hosting opportunity, facilitating international collaboration and fostering stronger relationships across the globe.
