Powerful Courtroom Drama ‘Lakeerein’ Tackles Marital Rape Issue, Set to Ignite Conversations
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 26 (ANI): Actor Tia Bajpai is all set to release a compelling courtroom drama titled ‘Lakeerein’ on November 3, delving into the complexities of marital rape and domestic violence.
Addressing a crucial and often underreported issue, ‘Lakeerein’ aims to captivate audiences and spark important conversations about consent within the bonds of marriage.
When Tia was introduced to the script, she admits it took her some time to comprehend the concept of marital rape. To prepare for her role, she conducted extensive online research, interviewed female law enforcement officers, and explored contemporary women’s perspectives and accounts. Inspired to share this important message with the public, Tia hopes the film can make a difference, even if it’s just a 5 percent change.
The film highlights the responsibility and institution of marriage, challenging traditional Indian beliefs that often encourage women to silently endure any hardships. Tia’s character, a modern woman with her own thoughts and beliefs, realizes that marriage requires a balance and that consent should not be taken for granted.
Responding to the controversy surrounding the film, Tia emphasizes the importance of cultural value in entertainment. While acknowledging that society is male-dominated, she believes those in positions of power are intelligent enough to understand the significance of such stories.
For Tia, shooting a scene at Mankameshwar Temple in Lucknow was a surreal experience as she had been visiting it since childhood. Being able to film a scene there with Ashutosh Rana was particularly special to her, as the temple staff and priests recognized her.
Looking ahead, Tia is currently working on an international horror film titled ‘Don’t Laugh,’ set to release in 2024.
‘Lakeerein’ portrays Kavya’s (Tia Bajpai) relentless pursuit of justice against her husband, Vivek Damodar Agnihotri (Gaurav Chopra), for the heinous crime of marital rape. In the courtroom, Bidita Bag’s character, Advocate Geeta Bishwas, confronts Ashutosh Rana’s character, Advocate Dudhari Singh, as the battle for justice unfolds.
Mark your calendars for November 3, 2023, when ‘Lakeerein,’ a powerful tale of justice and marital rape, will hit the screens.
