Cordele, Georgia – The West Central Georgia Community Action Council has unveiled its annual Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for the Fiscal Year 2024 (FFY 2024). This initiative aims to provide vital support to eligible Georgia citizens who struggle with the cost of heating their homes. The program is expected to commence on December 1, 2023, for elderly and homebound applicants and on January 2, 2024, for the general public.
Eligibility is extended to U.S. citizens or legally admitted aliens residing within the state of Georgia. Qualified households must meet specific income criteria and be responsible for covering their heating expenses. The annual income limit for eligibility ranges from $28,050 for a one-person household to $74,461 for eight-person households, with an additional $1,619 added for each extra person.
To apply for the program, applicants will be required to provide certain documents and fulfill specific criteria. These include presenting their most recent active heating bill or service statement from the heating provider, social security cards for each household member, proof of citizenship for all members, and proof of income for the past 30 days. Examples of acceptable proof of income documentation are paycheck stubs, letters granting public assistance, social security or unemployment benefits, among others. Additionally, applicants will be asked to sign a consent form allowing the state to access their energy usage data and verify bill payment.
