Left-arm Bowler Lauren Cheatle Returns to Australian Squad for India Tour

Australian left-arm fast bowler Lauren Cheatle has been called up to the national women’s squad for their upcoming tour of India, marking her return to international cricket after more than four years. The 16-player squad will participate in a multi-format series, consisting of one Test match, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), held across two venues in Mumbai during the Christmas and New Year period.

Cheatle, who made her international debut at the age of 17 in 2016, has not been part of the Australian squad since March 2019. Her inclusion in the squad demonstrates her impressive skills and the selectors’ confidence in her abilities. This opportunity will allow Cheatle to showcase her talent and contribute to the team’s success in the challenging Indian conditions.

The announcement of the squad also revealed that Grace Harris retains her place in the T20 squad, despite not being selected for the previous T20 matches against the West Indies last month. The Australian team is known for its depth and diversity, with players who possess immense potential and versatility.

The series between Australia and India will commence with a one-off Test match from December 21 to 24, followed by three ODIs at Wankhede Stadium from December 28 to January 2, and three T20Is at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai from January 5 to 9. These matches will provide a great platform for the players to test their skills against a formidable opponent like India, while also gaining valuable experience in Indian conditions.

Shawn Flegler, CA’s Head of Performance (Women’s Cricket) and National Selector, expressed his excitement about the multi-format series against India, acknowledging the significant challenge it presents for the Australian team. Flegler highlighted that most of the players have recent experience playing cricket in Mumbai, either through the bilateral series last December or the Women’s Performance League (WPL), and are familiar with the conditions.

The Australian squad comprises a talented group of players, including experienced campaigners like Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry, and Megan Schutt. The emerging talents of Darcie Brown, Heather Graham, and Phoebe Litchfield will also be on display during the tour. The team will strive to deliver their best performances and maintain a well-balanced approach in all three formats of the game.

As the players gear up for this exciting tour, cricket enthusiasts around the world eagerly await the action and intense competition between two highly skilled teams. The series promises to offer exhilarating moments and captivating cricket throughout, leaving fans wanting more.

In conclusion, Lauren Cheatle’s return to the Australian squad brings a fresh dimension to the team’s bowling attack. With a balanced combination of experienced players and promising talents, the Australians are ready to take on the challenging Indian conditions. The series against India will serve as a great platform for the players to showcase their skills and for cricket fans to witness captivating cricket at its best.
