Lagos Political Power Player Rejects Kingmaker Label

Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State, has dismissed claims that he is a kingmaker within the political landscape of Lagos. The GAC, known as the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, is widely believed to play a crucial role in determining the party’s candidates for governorship and other significant political offices.

In an interview with Daily Trust, Olusi made it clear that he does not consider himself a kingmaker. Instead, he stated that it is the Lord of the universe who anoints individuals to rule in various domains. According to Olusi, the Lord communicates indirectly through people to convey His messages and choose His anointed leaders. He acknowledged that he has been fortunate to be part of such divine assignments.

At the age of 86, Olusi has been actively involved in Lagos politics since 1962, when he served as a Councillor for the Lagos Town Council. He recalled his role in persuading renowned journalist Alhaji Lateef Jakande to enter politics, eventually leading to Jakande’s governorship in 1979. Olusi was one of three individuals who convinced Jakande to utilize his knowledge and skills beyond his influential editorial writings.

Olusi also shared his experiences with President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing Tinubu’s generosity and willingness to financially assist others. He described Tinubu as someone who is ready to support and spare his money, which greatly appealed to many people. Olusi explained that he met Tinubu during his tenure as the chairman of a party in Lagos and their relationship blossomed from there.

Olusi expressed his belief that money is the foundation of society, especially in Africa, and that many individuals are hesitant to risk their funds in an uncertain political landscape. However, Tinubu’s willingness to support their financial requests solidified his position as a politician in their eyes.

In summary, Tajudeen Olusi, the Chairman of the GAC in Lagos State, has rejected the label of kingmaker. He believes that it is the Lord of the universe who chooses anointed leaders. Olusi reminisced about his involvement in bringing Alhaji Lateef Jakande into politics and shed light on his relationship with President Bola Tinubu, praising Tinubu’s generosity and willingness to financially assist others in pursuing their political aspirations.
