Britain’s Paymaster General announced on Tuesday that victims of an infected blood scandal will receive an interim compensation payment of £210,000. The payments will start within 90 days, with the first round set to begin in the summer. This compensation aims to aid those affected by contaminated blood products in the 1970s and 1980s, with more extensive payments planned for those infected with HIV and Hepatitis C. The Infected Blood Inquiry was initiated in 2017 to investigate the widespread issue that led to thousands of infections. This compensation package is a step towards addressing the long-lasting impacts of this health crisis.
