India Face Criticism for Resting Kohli and Rohit, Salman Butt Suggests Dhawan and Rahane’s Comeback
The Indian cricket team has come under fire for their decision to rest star players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma during the recent ODI series against the West Indies. The move was met with severe criticism from fans and pundits alike, who questioned the team management’s tactics.
In the second ODI, where Kohli and Sharma were rested, the Indian team suffered a disastrous collapse, being bowled out for just 181 runs. They went on to lose the match by 6 wickets. However, in the third ODI, without the presence of the two star batsmen, India put on a dominant performance and won by a massive margin of 200 runs.
Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has joined the chorus of criticism, expressing his disappointment with the Indian team’s approach. In a recent YouTube video, Butt pointed out that India has been struggling against spinners in recent times and highlighted the need to address this issue. He also criticized the constant changes in the team’s composition and emphasized the importance of stability and clarity regarding players’ roles.
Butt suggested that if the Indian team wanted to experiment with different combinations, they should send an A team instead of resting key players in the main team. He mentioned the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Shubman Gill as potential replacements who have proven their worth in domestic and IPL matches.
In terms of batting order, Butt stressed the importance of having experienced players like Shikhar Dhawan at the top. He also advocated for the inclusion of Ajinkya Rahane, who last played an ODI for India in 2018. Butt praised Rahane’s performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Test matches and suggested that he could provide stability to the middle order.
Butt said, They need experience in the World Cup. They also need a guy at no.5/6, either it’s Rahul or Rahane. When there’s pressure, the youngsters stutter. You need experience, the pressure gets to you.
As India looks ahead to the upcoming T20 World Cup, there will undoubtedly be much discussion and debate surrounding the team selection and strategies. The criticisms raised by Salman Butt and other cricket personalities reflect the high expectations that fans have for the Indian cricket team and the immense pressure on the management to make the right decisions. Only time will tell how the team responds to these criticisms and reshapes its lineup for future matches.
