Governor Uba Sani Challenges Religious Leaders to End Bloodletting in Kaduna State
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has called on religious leaders to tackle the ongoing bloodletting that has plagued the state for years. Speaking during a meeting with religious leaders at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna on Sunday, Governor Sani expressed his concern over the negative reputation that Kaduna has gained due to recurrent conflicts.
He emphasized the need for unity in the state, stating that diversity should be a source of pride and strength, not division. The governor pointed out that conflict entrepreneurs have taken advantage of religious differences for personal gain, while the rest of the population has felt helpless.
Addressing the leaders, Governor Sani urged them to take the lead in rebuilding trust among communities and fostering interfaith dialogue. He emphasized that despite different approaches, everyone shares the same goal and faces the same challenges. It is crucial to prevent anti-development elements from deepening divisions in the state.
To achieve peace, the governor called for the establishment of Peace Committees at the grassroots level. These committees would promote peacemaking, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding, ultimately transforming conflicts and fostering development in communities. Governor Sani stressed that without peace, development would remain elusive.
Samuel Aruwan, the overseer of the state Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, emphasized the significance of the meeting in fostering harmony between followers of different faiths. Aruwan highlighted that banditry, kidnapping, clashes between farmers and herders, and other criminal activities pose a constant threat to development in the state. It was on this premise that the governor convened the meeting to find ways to restore peace in Kaduna.
Governor Uba Sani’s call for religious leaders to address the bloodletting in Kaduna State comes at a critical time. The state has long been plagued by conflicts driven by religious and ethnic differences. By taking the initiative to engage with religious leaders, the governor hopes to promote dialogue, build trust, and ultimately bring an end to the violence that has marred the state’s reputation.
The establishment of Peace Committees at the community level is a step towards fostering peace, development, and resilience against criminal activities. It is a proactive approach aimed at transforming conflicts and creating a harmonious environment for all residents of Kaduna State. By embracing unity and collaboration, the governor hopes to lay the foundation for a brighter future for the state.
While the challenges ahead are significant, Governor Uba Sani’s determination to break from the past and prioritize peace and progress is commendable. It is now up to the religious leaders and other stakeholders to seize this opportunity and work towards a peaceful and prosperous Kaduna State. The success of their efforts will not only benefit the immediate communities but also contribute to the overall development of the state as a whole.
