Ganduje Suspends Impeachment Threat, Paves Way for Political Solution in Ondo Crisis
In a significant development, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), announced the suspension of the impeachment process against Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The decision comes after a closed-door meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The APC leadership, led by Ganduje, has established a nine-man reconciliation committee, with former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari as the chairman. The committee’s primary objective is to reconcile all aggrieved members within the party in Ondo State, seeking a political solution to the crisis.
Aiyedatiwa had been facing the imminent threat of impeachment over allegations of gross misconduct, receiving an official notice from the State House of Assembly. However, with the recent suspension of the impeachment process, a conducive environment for continued dialogue has been created.
During the two-hour closed-door meeting, Ganduje, accompanied by State Assembly Speaker Olamide Oladiji, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders for choosing a political solution to the crisis. The meeting witnessed the participation of members of the party’s National Working Committee and 18 out of the 22 APC lawmakers, with the Speaker leading the delegation.
Chairman of the reconciliation committee, Aminu Masari, emphasized that the probe and impeachment processes have been temporarily suspended to allow the committee to carry out its work. Masari also mentioned that efforts are being made to meet with the governor of Ondo State.
The State Assembly Speaker, Oladiji, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to cooperation, stating that they will work closely with the national chairman and the reconciliation committee to find a lasting solution to the political crisis. This solution, she believes, will resolve the issues in the Ondo State chapter of the APC.
Ganduje echoed the importance of the APC as an institution vital to democracy and expressed his confidence in reaching a political solution. He commended the State Assembly for their decision to suspend the impeachment process, paving the way for continued dialogue.
With a strong focus on finding a political resolution, the APC is taking decisive steps through the reconciliation committee to address the internal conflicts in Ondo State. The suspension of the impeachment threat against Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa reveals the party’s commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue and unity.
As the nine-man reconciliation committee begins its work, its success in reconciling all aggrieved members in Ondo State will play a pivotal role in strengthening the APC and ensuring a stable political environment that promotes progress and development.
