Family Organizes Fundraiser for Slain Teen’s Funeral Amid Ongoing Police Investigation

Phoenix, AZ – It has been two weeks since the tragic killing of 16-year-old Daniel Chavarria in West Phoenix, and the police are still searching for suspects. As the investigation continues, Chavarria’s grieving family is facing the heartbreaking task of raising funds for his funeral expenses.

Daniel Chavarria was a beloved member of a large and tight-knit family. In memory of their cherished teenager, many of Chavarria’s relatives gathered on Friday to organize a car wash fundraiser.

Speaking about her brother-in-law, Alyssa Torres shared, Daniel didn’t deserve it. Daniel was always so happy and loved being around us. He never did anything wrong to anybody; he never hurt anybody. So, for someone to do that to him, it just wasn’t right.

Chavarria had planned to meet Torres on October 22nd, but their plans fell through. Tragically, later that same night, he was shot and killed in West Phoenix. Chavarria’s lifeless body was discovered on the street near 57th Ave. and Hazelwood. As of now, the authorities have made no arrests in connection with the case.

According to a neighbor, they heard three gunshots and someone screaming. Expressing their sadness, the neighbor stated, It’s just terrible. I don’t know him or where they were coming from, if they were just walking or what, but it was upsetting. I’m sorry that happened.

Chavarria leaves behind a heartbroken mother, nine siblings, and several nieces and nephews. The entire family is rallying together to offer support and love to his grieving mother. Torres, who also has a relative affected by gun violence, shares that the pain of this loss cuts even deeper.

He had a big heart and cared about everybody. He made sure everybody was okay before himself, Torres fondly recalls.

The car wash fundraiser in honor of Chavarria will be ongoing throughout the weekend from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those who wish to contribute can visit the car wash location near 43rd Ave. and Thomas.

The tragic loss of a young life continues to reverberate in the West Phoenix community as the search for answers and justice carries on. The family’s efforts to raise funds for Chavarria’s funeral highlight their determination to give their loved one a proper farewell.

As the investigation into this senseless act of violence continues, the police urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing justice to Daniel Chavarria and his grieving family.
