Elon Musk’s X Challenges LinkedIn with New Job-Hiring Feature
Billionaire Elon Musk’s platform X (formerly Twitter) has entered the professional networking realm by introducing a new job-hiring feature. This feature allows verified organizations to post job listings on their profiles, posing a competition to established professional platforms like LinkedIn.
In response to a Twitter user’s post expressing disdain towards LinkedIn, Elon Musk candidly expressed his own views. Musk stated, People send me LinkedIn links sometimes, but the cringe level is so high that I just can’t bring myself to use it, so I ask for the resume or bio to be emailed. We will make sure that the X competitor to LinkedIn is cool.
Musk’s comment quickly went viral, triggering various reactions from social media users. Many users echoed Musk’s sentiments, criticizing LinkedIn for its perceived lack of authenticity and credibility. Complaints ranged from people using misleading job titles to inauthentic pronoun consideration. Users expressed dissatisfaction with the rigidity of the platform, comparing it to outdated phones that are no longer relevant.
Interestingly, Musk’s hints about introducing a job-hiring feature were made back in May. When a user suggested that Twitter should include dating services, Musk responded with, Interesting idea, maybe jobs too. This move seems to align with Musk’s vision of developing X into an all-encompassing app.
It is worth noting that Twitter acquired Laskie, a job-matching tech startup, in May. This acquisition likely played a role in the creation and launch of the new job-hiring feature. WorkWeek, a US-based media company, has already been utilizing this feature for a month. Its CEO, Adam Ryan, took to the platform to showcase the new feature and took a playful jab at Mark Zuckerberg’s newly launched Twitter-rival, Threads.
As X challenges LinkedIn in the professional networking space, it remains to be seen how users and organizations will respond to this new job-hiring feature. With Musk’s determination to create a cool and innovative alternative to LinkedIn, it is clear that X aims to disrupt the status quo and offer users a different, more engaging experience. Only time will tell if X can truly rival LinkedIn’s dominance and revolutionize the professional networking landscape.
