Police Issue Warning: Violent Criminal Leslie Peter Ross on the Loose
Police authorities have raised the alarm over a dangerous offender who has managed to escape custody. Leslie Peter Ross, a violent criminal with a history of heinous crimes, is currently at large and the public has been urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid approaching him.
Ross, 52, has a disturbing criminal background that includes offenses such as rape, kidnapping, and intentional wounding. Recently, during a session with a Department of Corrections psychologist, Ross admitted to numerous additional undisclosed crimes, including gang-related violence and coercive sexual acts within intimate relationships.
Law enforcement agencies released Ross’s photograph to Open Justice, emphasizing that he is a high-risk individual who poses a serious threat to public safety. Ross is known to have affiliations with the Black Power gang and is restricted from entering the Waikato district.
The situation escalated when Ross managed to remove his electronic monitoring ankle bracelet on September 29, while on a supervised release from prison. Further, a report from the psychologist indicated that Ross presents a very high risk of committing future violent offenses, as well as sexual offenses.
Upon reviewing the psychologist’s report, Justice Neil Campbell determined that Ross’s criminal history, along with his own admission of undisclosed crimes, warranted immediate intervention. Despite Ross being unaccounted for and his whereabouts unknown, Campbell approved an application from Corrections to impose an Interim Supervision Order (ISO) on Ross. The ISO allows for probation officers to manage his case until a court hearing in January. During this hearing, an Extended Supervision Order (ESO) will be considered, applicable for a duration of up to 10 years.
In light of the imposed ISO, several conditions will be placed on Ross once he is located. These conditions include electronic monitoring, abstaining from alcohol and non-prescription drugs, as well as reporting any intimate relationships to a probation officer. Moreover, Ross will be strictly prohibited from entering the Waikato District or associating with any members of the Black Power gang.
The police have urged the public to stay vigilant and immediately contact them by dialing 111 if they spot Ross or have any information regarding his whereabouts. Anonymous tips can also be shared with the authorities through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
This ongoing manhunt for Leslie Peter Ross serves as a stark reminder of the need for public awareness and cooperation. As authorities work tirelessly to locate and apprehend this dangerous offender, it is paramount that individuals heed the warning and refrain from approaching him. The safety and security of the community remain the utmost priority in this critical situation.
