EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — The Texas Department of Public Safety released video of a chaotic encounter between border agents and migrants attempting to scale the border wall into New Mexico.
DPS said it was providing Border Patrol agents with air support near the Santa Teresa Port of Entry.
The video shows several border agents, including one on an ATV, rushing the border wall as several migrant men rush the wall from the Mexican side.
The migrants had set up a ladder, and the individuals who had crossed are seen being taken into custody.
However, some individuals start throwing items at the agent as they try to detain the men and pull down the ladder. One individual is seen throwing sand through the wall and another is seen throwing a water bottle from atop the border wall.
The video illustrates recent behavior by these groups in the El Paso Sector, DPS said, adding that the individuals were also throwing rocks.
DPS provided aerial support as part of Operation Lone State, Gov. Greg Abbot’s $11 billion border security initiative.
Despite a drop in illegal border crossings along the Southwest border, numbers in the El Paso Sector have remained steady. According to CBP data, the El Paso Sector reported 30,393 illegal crossings in April compared to 30,421 in March.
