Belarusian Sabalenka Dominates Burel in Third Round at US Open
Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka showcased her dominance at the US Open as she defeated France’s Clara Burel in the third round. Their encounter ended quite similarly to their previous meeting a year ago, with Sabalenka emerging victorious in a commanding fashion. The second seed left no room for doubt as she powered her way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory, bringing an end to Burel’s New York campaign.
Sabalenka, who previously won the Australian Open, unleashed an impressive display of skill and precision against her opponent. From the start, she demoralized Burel by winning the first five games of the opening set without facing a break point. Although Burel managed to fend off a couple of break points in the second set’s opening game, it was short-lived as Sabalenka quickly regained control over the match.
Throughout the one-hour affair at Louis Armstrong Stadium, Sabalenka unleashed a total of 22 winners, leaving Burel struggling to keep up. Notably, Sabalenka managed to save the only break point she faced in the sixth game of the second set, extinguishing any hopes Burel may have had of a comeback. In the final game, Burel’s frustration was evident as she slammed her racket to the ground after hitting a forehand shot out, leading to Sabalenka breaking her serve for the match with a backhand winner.
Sabalenka, a consistent major contender, has now reached the semi-finals in New York for the past two years. Her next opponent will be determined by the outcome of a third-round match between 13th seed Daria Kasatkina and Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen.
Sabalenka’s commanding performance has solidified her position as a force to be reckoned with in the US Open, as she continues to impress with her formidable skills on the court. Tennis enthusiasts and fans alike eagerly anticipate her upcoming matches, as she aims to make her mark on the tournament once again.
